Is There a Modern Successor to AppleScript and Apple Events?

On the Mac, all we've got is Apple script and Apple events; on iOS, we have none of those things. John Salt: All iOS applications, like Mac applications in the past, should be automatable. He says automation should also be built into the frameworks in a modern way - but it needs to be secure too.
