Relationships are built off of shared experiences. Being there for your friends when bad things happen can be tremendously valuable, if you can make the time to do it. And i wouldn't discount that even just like a simple phone call during that time i could have helped.

Friendship, family, and community are indispensable to living a good life. But as we get older, it becomes more difficult to stay in touch with the people we care about. Life seems to always get in the way.
