I want to push back against that, and i do that in the book. I quote from the stoic epictatus, actually, who says, when you receive an invitation to pleasure, pause. Being able to sort of claim yourself and claim agency to not go far, to wait, can actually be a very good thing. An inducement to willing the good also implies an understanding of what the good actually is. And again, waiting gives you space to do that. The best thing might not always be to rush ahead. There 's a risk there to a woman when a man has sex with her. Can we think through the potential consequences of sleeping together outside of wedlock?
