Indian population has a genetic predisposition to central obesity. We were tuned to accumulating fat for periods of famine or food insecurity. Now the same population doesn't suffer anymore from famine or food insecure, but it takes some time for our genes to adapt to that. So we have a special problem and that's why when we use cutoffs in BMI as for example, we use lower cutoffs for any Indian population because the concern is so much higher.
