Academic Freedom Is a Protection of the Individual Scholar

The idea ana academic freedom is to say, our research and our teaching will do a better job at building knowledge if people are free within those intellectual structures. It's aninsistance that you may not apply external standards,. either my unpopular conclusion or my unpopular speech about other stuff. Doesn't mean tha disciplines don't change at the porters. But what it means for a new method of inquiry to be discovered is in part, for to be persuasively communicated to existing practitioners of the scholarly enterprise.
