Nuclear Waste Isn't the Stuff of Horror Movies

There's nearly a quarter million metric tons of high-level nuclear waste and storage worldwide. The dangerous radiation really is done and over with after the first 50 years, says Peter Bergen. We can actually burn the waste we already have as fuel and thus eliminate the need to store it long term. But there's still no regulatory precedent for commercializing waste-burning breeder reactors.
