The Legitimate Reasons for Retraction

There are two legitimate reasons for retraction, neither of which remotely applies in the present case. The first is fraud. People make up data. And this has happened very visibly. For example, the Dutch psychologist, Daedric Stoppel, made up data for many high profile papers and published them. So that's when it's, I doubt it happens often when it happens. It's very serious and it deserves retraction. If you're not an academic, you try to get access to an academic article and it is likely to be behind a paper. That's another thing that a lot of people are outraged about.
