Dawoud Khan's Perception of the Soviet Union

Dawoud Khan led a coup to overthrow the Afghanistan government. The king, Zahir Shah, was forced to abdicate and he went into exile in Italy. Most of these Afghan officers within the military had been trained in the Soviet Union. They fought with Dawoud Khan being supported by so many Soviet-leaning Afghans that this was their golden ticket into Afghanistan.
