There's this notion that public transit is for socialists and highways are for capitalists. That just pervades the state's politics, which is totally false. The association of general contractors of Texas gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to Texas Republicans including Governor Abbott. And so they certainly have a huge influence in the state.
