Using Atomic Clocks for Scientific Purposes

The first atomic clock was created in 1955 and it would drift one second every 1.4 million years. Because they were so accurate by 1968, the second was finally redefined. According to nature in 2015 improvements to the system could theoretically make clocks that quote gain or lose no more than 1 second every 15 billion years - longer than the current age of the universe.
