Hyperthermia and Cardiac Arrest

During postcardiac arrest care, any fever greater than 38 degrees Celsius must be aggressively treated. Persistent hyperthermia is associated with unfavorable neurologic outcomes in children. To treat the child who remains comatose after out of hospital cardiac arrest, 2015 American Heart Association PALS guidelines update recommends that it is reasonable either to maintain continuous normal thermia that is targeted temperature management between 36 to 37.5 or five days. If TTM of 32 to 34 is used, meticulous care must be provided to prevent temperatures going below 32 degrees Celsius.
