Security has been a concern for IT and application systems for many years as well. When you think about two different applications, they can have totally different domains of knowledge and expertise. Controlling access to both of these applications in a unified way is impossible because they don't have the same objects or concepts. But with data, there's actually a chance of building this universal language that would be applied to many, many data systems. And so that's where I think there's an opportunity for data security platforms to play a role. The most advanced we went into is just doing authentication and authorization is largely kept at the application level.

- How did you get involved in the area of data management?
- Data security is a very broad term. Can you start by enumerating some of the different concerns that are involved?
- How has the scope and complexity of implementing security controls on data systems changed in recent years?
- In your experience, what is a typical number of data locations that an organization is trying to manage access/permissions within?
- What are some of the main challenges that data/compliance teams face in establishing and maintaining security controls?
- How much of the problem is technical vs. procedural/organizational?
