The Association of Art Museum Directors agreed to a year-long loosening of their rules. If museums sold any part of their collection, they wouldn't have to funnel all the money back into new acquisitions. But they'd be allowed to use it for what they called direct care of the collection. So far, eight museums have signed up to this, including the Brooklyn Museum in New York and the Baltimore Museum of Art.
