The Importance of Moral Progress

I've been using the word moral progress with my own assumptions about what I take it to mean. How would you define moral evolution if there's such thing? And do you think these things are the same? I think moral evolution is much easier to define. So I don't think moral progress is the same thing as moral evolution because moral evolution can happen in a negative, regressive direction.
