The Social Impact of the Meiji Restoration

This week we look at the social impact of the Meiji Restoration on Japan. The first era was one of near total embrace of things western. But as the new government came into shape in the 1880s, a new nationalist revival began to take hold. This period also saw the rise of anti-government movements ranging from socialism to communism. There will be no episode next week, as I'm going back to Japan for a business trip. Next two episodes should be out on June 30th and July 14th. After our regular programming as get into the foreign policy of Imperial Japan, finally World War II itself.
