Lacan and Surrealism in the Seminars

Lacan's writings are even more difficult and just as elusive, they're just denser. He would generate ideas in the seminar, work them out live, and then usually take those ideas and condense them into an essay that would then appear in a tree. The seminars can definitely be meandering and things like that but so also is the dream. There's a very real sense in which what Lacan is trying to do in keeping with his surrealist roots.
