This week's clinical review and education section has the updated U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation statement on skin cancer screening in asymptomatic adolescents and adults. The authors of this evidence report conclude that although a substantial, non-randomized evidence base suggests a clear association between earlier stage at skin cancer detection and decreased mortality, these studies do not suggest that visual skin examination is associated with melanoma mortality benefit or earlier detection.
