The Definition of Alkaloid

In the strictest sense, an alkaloid is a material isolated from a plant that contains a basic nitrogen atom. Sometimes the term is extended to include any material that's extracted from a plant. THC would not be an alkaloids because it doesn't contain a nitrogen atom. Salvin or an A would not bean alkaloid because they don't contain a Nitrogen atom.
