The original askian coding scheme had some limitations and drawbacks to it. It really only accounted for english, because it has all the all the capital letters and lower case letters of the english language. What they realized was a hundred and 28 possible values basically means that you are using seven bits out of eight possible bits in a biteA so what someones really smart interrupted was look at that and be like, hang on. If we were anyways representing each of these characters with eight digits, that is to say, eight bits for one bite of information, why don't we just use that eighth digit?
