The Importance of Professionalization in Civil Society
The middlemen that used to provide this sort of connective tissue and sinew of civil society are slowly being replaced by technology. The old volunteers who would grab yard signs and put them up and go door to door, that's all been professionalized. And it leaves the people who want to be sort of involved in local politics or national politics out of the sense of civic or patriotic enthusiasm kind of just sitting on the sidelines.
