It's the conundrum of political journalism that we pretend is far easier than it really is. It's an impossible problem, because if you don't have some kind of human relationship with the politicians oothen you're not going to get them talking frankly to you. So there has to be a connection. You have to get on with them up to a point to get the story, but then you have to betray them. I think journalists have to be cold heart so you make the relationship... And then when the push comes to shob and you have to say something disobliging about him, ad make sure tha you're not too much of a friend, you pull back. That
