Second Life was crucial to the early success of Second Life, because players could buy and sell goods and services using in-game currency. At one point, 60,000 players were deriving positive incomes from the game Net of Fees. The idea of web 3 gaming has also introduced some interesting issues around governance of virtual worlds and economies. Think of them as shareholder democracy in a public corporation where your ownership gives you voting rights on key issues.
