The reason why alfred nobel endowed the peace prize was that he had this horrifying realization that what he had invented was potentially very stabilizing for the world. And that's before he saw the catastrophic use in two major world wars. He didn't talk about it publicly, but i believe that is why he endowed the no bell prizes. I think people just don't realize just how accessible dynamite was, and just how much even the manufacturers of dynamite were clamoring to be regulated so that we could get out of this.
