Cultivation of saffron has happened in the US since the 1700s it seems and now it's picking back up so that's quite interesting but it also just showcases how widespread the use of saffron is. What really seems to matter is the quality of the soil how well it drains and if it has any stones and stuff like that in it and a good calcium content, he says. The stigmas are the most valuable part of saffrons because they contain the active compounds right? They do contain some of the active compounds too but the highest concentration was in the stigmas so you want that.
