The Role of Credit Card in the Second Attack
Detectives were aware that someone had stolen a car in Leeds a week before. In the Cortina, the thief had found a credit card which they used to buy items including a £20 parka pen and video game called Scramble. It was clearly likely there was a connection between the rape and the car theft. Detectives did the right thing by asking for copies of 20 vouchers that had been used in making purchases with a stolen credit card. Unbeknown to detectives at the time, one of the vouchers had actually been used to buy petrol for the stolen Ford Cortina used in the second attack.
