The US home vacancy rate is 0.6% the lowest since records began back in 1965. Many homeowners don't want to sell because they've locked in a mortgage rate under 4%. One reason and a primary reason there aren't enough homes are zoning restrictions. The countries that have a much greater supply of homes per inhabitant is France, Italy, Portugal, and Finland.
