I'm Not Sure What to Make of This Argument, Right?
In each case of philosopher is making an assertion about us. That is to say, not merely about himself, but about many other human beings as well. This is why Descartes wants to stick with the eye. I think philosophers would want to make those arguments by referring simply to their own experience so that they don't imply that there are a bunch of other minds out there.
