Antoine Galand's Arabian Nights
Antoine Galand was born in 1646 in northern France. He attended school in Noion where he studied Greek and Latin. His facility with classical languages landed him a job with the French embassy on an archaeological expedition in Istanbul. And contrary to instructions that he had, Antoine Galand fell in love with books in Arabic, Persian, and Turkish. The first batch of stories of 1001 nights were published in 1704.
