Shetland: Edge of the Prehistoric World
The Ancients
00:00
Shetland's Neolithic and the Wider Neolithic World
Shetland was connected to some extent, but not to Scandinavia. There is limited evidence for contact with Orkney. Shetland's Neolithic and Orkney's Neolithic go in totally different directions. It's very difficult to even define where the Bronze Age starts in Shetland. And we don't find much Bronze either, so you could start arguing that it isn't a Bronze Age. However, things do gradually change. In many places, for the South in England, you get the appearance of Beaker, Pottery, and changes in style. But there are lots of regional variations of which Shetland has its own variation.
