The Economic Side, the Product of Policy Mistakes or of Bigger Forces?

There are people who would say, if only we never had Reagan or Thatcher, none of this would have happened. But that seems to me basically to be nonsense. The force is leading to deindustrialization and the move to the service sector economy with its more precarious workforce. And trade is a part of that, though not as important as some believe. There were also very big policy decisions made for perfectly understandable reasons but they had consequences too.
