One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing colleagues refer to our students as kids. They're younger than us, sure, but they still are adults who can go to war and make all sorts of weighty decisions. What we really needed to do was be meeting them as adult learners,. even if they were 18, or not 18 in some cases, but to refer to them as kids.
