What Is Acceptable in Muslim Support for Bernie Sanders?
Shadi: I never really thought of myself as a Muslim working on the Bernie campaign. That wasn't my primary identity in that context because I wasn't working on religious issues. But I was weird in a different way which was people saw me on the campaign as a little bit, to put it mildly, hawkish. So I always felt like that's what made me stand out in kind of internal conversations and not everyone was totally comfortable with that. Shadi: There was quite a bit of Muslim support for Bernie. In part, and I should also note, not just because of policies towards authoritarian regimes in the Middle East, but also on Israel Palestine.
