The industry was invented by one man named colbert in france. He worked for the king. The french had a problem, which is they weren't doing very well as imperialists. They figured out how to make things better than they needed to be. People who wanted to demonstrate their status could spend extra money and gain a symbol that would allow them to do this. And hundreds of years later, it continues. We are all the players, but we are not the customers. We are the product so that some one else the advertiser can pay money to reach us.
