A Canadian woman was about to be deported after working as a caregiver for another elderly woman. The two women were not married, they weren't in a romantic partnership but had been lifelong friends. There was a big reaction that their relationship somehow didn't have the same pedigree and standing than a marriage might have. And so she was actually granted three months reprieve on compassionate grounds; it's now dropped out of headlines.
