There's no evidence that anyone in the New Testament set up a test of the kind that the Baptist had set up to make sure that everyone who is allowed to receive the sign, right, is regenerate. So what did Abraham do? Was he justified by works as the rabbis and others have suggested or as others suggest that he was under some kind of covenant of works? No, right? That's what Paul says. God is the object of his faith, not his good works, not his sanctification, but God, the one who made the promise. And so there's no reflection here on the quality of Abraham's faith.
