Is There a Main Driver of AI Progress?
So it's often said that there are like three key inputs into AI progress. We've got innovation, good ideas, better algorithms and then compute. And we can kind of envisage this on a spectrum where it all adds up to 100%. So if compute is like the major bottleneck, let's say it's got like 70% of progress can be attributed to just increases in compute. Therefore there's 30% to give to data innovation. There are reasons to hope that it's compute that is the like limiting factor and that there's the main driver of AI progress.
