Adam Sobel: In preparing for the recent episodes that I did on Proust and Science, I went back into Descartes. One of the things that having Descartes on the brain made me think was this kind of encounter that is an unsettling or a collapse. Sobel: The Cartesian form of doubt gets rewired into a function of being suspicious about the nature of agency in such a way that we experience the kind of individual dissolution.
