Denny Awberg remembers the early 1950s, when Malibu was an undiscovered wave. Most days it was only Mickey Dora and one or two others in the water. In a sea of Boy Scout blondes, he was obsidian with dark hair and eyes. He would show up in things that you wouldn't expect a surfer to wear.
