The Scarcity Mind Set in Humanities and PHDS
The job market for ph ds and humanities is notoriously flooded. According to the new york times, the number of tenure track jobs for english professors has declined every year since 20 12 - a total loss of 33%. The result of this very real scarcity leads to a scarcity mind set even if you already have a tenure track job in humanities. A scarcity mind set tells us that we'd better not make a wrong move, or we'll lose this precious thing that we probably only got by accident.
