Dennis McDermott was Police Commissioner in Solomon Islands from 2007 to 9. He came into the post a year after riots burned large parts of Chinatown in Hanayara. Yet 13 years later, the exact same thing did happen again. I asked Dennis whether this set of Deja Vu all over again proved the futility of all this training and equipping against eruptions that are essentially political or social in nature. "I doubt we'll ever, ever finish a training," he said.
