Love Is Giving What You Don't Have

Socrates's fundamental position seems to be that there's nothing in me that's lovable, right? How it is then that you're able to embody that and somehow give that to a partner is quite unclear. There are other ways of talking about it where Lacan talks about it in the case of André-Gied that somehow he gave his wife immortality by writing about her - even though he didn't have immortality. So that's sort of another gloss I think on love is giving what you don't have. But then the articulation between that sort of giving what youdon't have and object A isn't so clear either.
