The Importance of Implicit Bias in Medical Care for Black Patients
Shoshana: I was dismayed to hear about Dr. DeCarry's experience of going for years without the medical attention she needed, simply because she was a woman of color. She says studies have shown that black people aren't taken seriously when they need treatment for pain and other medical issues. Shoshana: A biased understanding of black patients has seeped into medical decision-making because of the history of racism in America.
