Can Cognitive Therapy Reduce Relapse Risk?
People whose depression remits with CBT, so again, that acute response to treatment are less likely to relapse than those who reach remission with medication. If somebody gets better on cognitive therapy, you can vis-a-vis medications, you can reduce risk for relapse by about half. But all that being said, it's like aspirin. You take an aspirin today to get rid of the headache. It doesn't mean it's going to keep it from getting a headache next week unless you keep taking aspirin on continuous basis.
