The Origins of Path Analysis
Wright was fascinated by the fact that if he wanted to breed a white guinea pig, how many generations of guinea pigs is he going to have to do it? He found the ideas of these very simplistic Punnett squares and Mendelian systems to really not tell the whole story. And so what he started doing is sketching out what we would recognize as path diagrams. We use them to this day and it's a replacement or augments covariance algebra.
