The Death of Morat
The death of Morat was very popular with revolutionaries. David felt that depicting contemporary, quote, noble events in this style would help to instill knowledge and civic virtue after the revolution. The painting also draws on depictions of a dead Jesus Christ from across art history. It has remained at the Louvre for more than 100 years.
