I was a bit puzzled why india, as a relatively liberal democratic country, was still, in those days, the so called hindoo rate of growth. So i think that led me to grad school in america, where i wanted to do civil nit elations. That's why i ended up with steve cohen at the university of illinois on civil military relations in india. And i didn't know it at the time, but he was already more or less finishing a book on the parkestani military. He'd already written the book on parkestan. But what stayed with me there was that, i mean, i was introduced to international relations there. I
