There are some quite strange effects that have been studied in psychology. In 1997, when NASA started the Pathfinder series of space exploration to the planet Mars, there was an abnormal jump in sales for Mars chocolate bars. The psychologists explained this is an effect known as fluency. Once we have been exposed to one particular stimulus, the next time we see that stimulus, it's processed more easily. As a result of familiarity, we like it better. Same thing explains why sales of orange-colored items rise at Halloween.
