The Story of Madonna's Shanghai Surprise

In Skonston, Marital Bliss, Madonna started working on her next album. Meanwhile, Sean Penn was trying to get Dennis Hopper to direct him in barfly. That movie didn't work out and the husband and wife signed on to co-star in Shanghai Surprise. Within hours of arriving in Macau for the shoot, Penn was in jail on charges of attempted murder. In December, Madonna filed divorce papers, then withdrew them 12 days later.
