The reason you're doing it is to have a reliable power supply, which the monopoly utilities are no longer seemingly capable of providing. You do solar with the battery backup to be able to de-grid in the event of a power outage. It's not about the payback in dollars and cents, it's about the reliability of a power supply to your home. So given an opportunity today, I would do it because I'm so much into Homeland Security for one thing.
