The USDA's Control of Commodities

The farm bills and USDA's control of commodities was a post World War II development that started in 1949. These policies have evolved, but basically stayed in place through the Cold War and into the present. The current nutrition titles in the farm bill account for 76% of the outlays. Those include school lunch, wick, and similar low-income nutritional supplement programs.
